Publish and versions
How drafts save, what publishing checks, how to view the live version, and how to go back to an earlier one.
Use this page when you want to know what is saved, what visitors see, and how to undo a published change.
Draft and published
Every screen has two versions:
| Version | What it is |
|---|---|
| Draft | What you edit. Nothing here reaches visitors. |
| Published | What visitors see on your site. It is read-only in the editor. |
Saving
Your draft saves itself two seconds after your last change. You can also click Save Draft or press Ctrl S (⌘S on a Mac). A manual save shows "Draft saved successfully". Leaving the editor also sends any unsent changes.
The status under the screen name tells you where you are:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| All changes saved | Nothing waiting. |
| Unsaved changes | Edits waiting for the next save. |
| Saving… | A save is in progress. |
| Couldn't save, retrying | A save failed. The editor retries every 10 seconds. |
| Viewing published | You are looking at the live version. |
| View only | Your role cannot edit. Editors, admins and owners can. |
Closing the tab with unsaved changes asks you to confirm. Undo and redo keep the last 100 changes.
Saved somewhere else
If another tab or a teammate saved the screen after you opened it, autosave pauses and a dialog says "This screen was changed somewhere else". Choose Keep my version to save yours over theirs, or Load the latest version to drop your unsaved edits and reload.
Publish
Click Publish, then confirm "Publish this draft?" with Publish Draft. If you have unsaved changes, the editor saves them first. You see "Screen published successfully." The screen goes live on every site that shows it. Visitors get the new version within about a minute, and no deploy is needed.
Publishing is checked. While the draft has problems, the button reads N Issues instead. Click it to read them. Each issue with a layer has a Select layer button. The server runs the same checks again, so a publish cannot skip them. The list of messages is in Validation. Saving a draft is never blocked.
Publish needs the Editor role or higher. On the Free plan, once the month's views and the 7-day grace period are used up, publishing is paused: "This month's views ran out and the 7 days of grace are over. Upgrade your plan, or wait for next month." What is live keeps showing. See Plans and billing.
View the published version
Open the Draft menu in the top right. It lists both versions with their number ("v12"), the time, and Live on the published one.
- Choose Published to look at the live screen. Editing, adding and saving are off, and the Design panel says "Published version is read-only". You can still select layers and copy.
- Choose Draft to return. Your unsaved work is kept.
- Discard changes (on the Draft row) replaces your draft with the published version, after you confirm "Discard draft changes?". Nothing is lost until you save. It shows "Same as published" when there is nothing to discard.
Version history
Version history at the bottom of the menu opens every version that went live, newest first. A version number is the draft number it was published from. Pick one to preview it.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Make it live | Makes that version the live one again, after you confirm. Visitors see it within a minute. Your draft does not change. |
| Copy into draft | Replaces your draft with that version, so you can keep working from it. Unsaved changes are lost, and you are warned. You can still undo before saving. |
The live version shows "This is what visitors see now."
